April Training Tips from KiteSportz
Whether you're preparing for tryouts, tournaments, or just looking to elevate your game this season, targeted drills can help you stay sharp and game-ready. Here are five simple, high-impact drills to add to your spring training routine. 1. Rapid Reaction Grounders (Infielders)Purpose: Improve glove speed, footwork, and transfer. How To: Have a partner hit or roll short-hop grounders at a fast pace from 10–15 feet away. Focus on quick hands, staying low, and smooth transition to throwing position. Pro Tip: Add a 5-second clock to simulate game speed. 2. Catch & Fire (Outfielders)Purpose: Sharpen tracking, glove timing, and throwing accuracy. How To: Use a fungo bat or tennis racket to send fly balls. After the catch, outfielders should hit a target (cone or net) 120+ feet away. Pro Tip: Practice drop-step and crossover techniques to reach balls at the fence line. 3. Cage Challenge – 5 Pitch Zones (Hitters)Purpose: Build zone awareness and disciplined swings. How To: Divide the strike zone into five imaginary zones. Have a coach or partner call a zone before each pitch. Only swing if it’s on target. Pro Tip: Track results and identify your strengths and weaknesses by zone. 4. Base Burner Drill (All Players)Purpose: Improve base running instincts and explosive first steps. How To: Start at home, sprint to first base with timing. Then, add 2nd-to-3rd turns or simulate pickoff reactions from any base. Pro Tip: Practice sliding techniques weekly—headfirst and hook slide. 5. Pressure Throw Circuit (Pitchers & Fielders)Purpose: Develop consistency under fatigue. How To: Create a short circuit: 5 push-ups → 10-yard sprint → make a throw (to a base, net, or catcher). Repeat with increasing throws. Pro Tip: Practice hitting targets after light fatigue to simulate late-inning pressure. Make It Count This SpringGreat players don’t just play—they prepare with purpose. By adding these 5 drills to your routine, you'll be ready to shine at tryouts, tournaments, and when the game is on the line. Need more training tips or a team to play for?
